Straight after their 5-0 win over Leeds, Mikel Arteta said Saka’s injury looked “significant” and explained that the winger had hurt his hamstring which is a huge blow for the side.
“And Bukayo, while he was running with the ball, carrying the ball, wrestling with the defender, he felt something in his hamstring. So let's see.
“I think it's the other one. It's not the same one as the previous injury. But yeah, I mean, we've been two weeks and we already lost Kai, Martin and Bukayo. So it tells you how well-equipped you have to be in this league to manage and to maintain the level that we want.”
This means Saka will miss this Sunday’s clash against league champions Liverpool who, much like Arsenal, have had a perfect start so far this season. Losing the England international is a huge blow and could cost The Gunners a crucial three points at home.
However, Football.London has now reported that the injuries for both Saka and captain Martin Odegaard are not as bad as first feared and the pair could return in just a matter of weeks rather than months as first feared.
Arsenal are hoping that Saka will return from injury for their clash with Nottingham Forest after the international break. Arteta’s side host Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium the week after facing Forest and if Saka has not returned by then their title chances might take a serious hit.
