Liverpool head off on a preseason tour of the USA in the coming weeks with Andoni Iraola looking to try out several bold plans with his new squad.

The majority of Iraola’s key players will not make the trip across the Atlantic due to an extended summer break following their participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With the Netherlands eliminated in the Round of 32, Cody Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch could play some part in the tour, but a decision will be made closer to the time by Iraola.

The Reds face Sunderland, Wrexham and Leeds United as part of two-week camp, before Anfield friendlies against Monaco and Como at the start of August.

The Spanish coach is also looking to step up several transfer pursuits as the World Cup wraps up later this month after already completing a £34.5M swoop for Victor Munoz and the belated arrival of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.

Munoz will be an option off the left of Liverpool’s attack with Iraola also tracking PSG forward Bradley Barcola for the same role.

However, the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah leaves a vacancy on the right flank, and Iraola could utilise preseason as a chance to test Rio Ngumoha in that position.

Ngumoha impressed in his breakout 2025/26 season on Merseyside, with two Premier League goals scored by the 17-year-old, as he set a new record as the club’s youngest-ever goal scorer.

His preferred position is on the left, but that could be reshuffled in the weeks ahead to assess his productivity on the opposite side, as Iraola looks to incorporate Munoz and plan for life after Salah.
