Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has reportedly added Dutch international Lutsharel Geertruida to his summer transfer target list ahead of the Reds preseason return.

Iraola has already secured a £34.5M deal for fellow Spaniard Victor Munoz - who will land on Merseyside after the 2026 FIFA World Cup - with Jeremy Jacquet also completing his pre-agreed move from Rennes.

Following some key departures, including free transfer trio Mohamed Salah, Andy Roberson and Ibrahima Konate, the key challenge for Iraola is to fill those vacant slots and Geertruida is an option.

The 25-year-old impressed as part of a season-long loan at Sunderland in 2025/26, as the Black Catts sealed European qualification, and he can operate at either right-back or in central defence.

The latter area would cover that place left open by Konate, and Liverpool are still short right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold's exit, and an injury-disrupted 12 months for Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley.

Reports from Caught Offside indicate Liverpool could be rivalled by Arsenal in their pursuit of Geertruida with current side RB Leipzig expected to demand around €25M as a transfer fee.

Despite the potential of being targeted by the defending Premier League champions, Liverpool are confident their ability to offer a greater first-team role could tip the balance in their favour, as Iraola looks to gain a clear picture on his first-choice defence for the 2026/27 season.

Iraola's team start their preseason with a USA tour later this month kicking off with a clash against Sunderland in Nashville on July 25.
