Just as Vazquez was leaving Real for Bayer, Xabi was moving in the opposite direction to succeed Carlos Ancelotti as Real Madrid coach.

However, Xabi's first six months in charge haven't gone to plan and his position is in sharp focus during LaLiga's Christmas break.
But Vazquez told AS: "It happens all the time, it's certainly nothing new.
"I'm convinced he can do it. I think he'll have a great season and do an excellent job at Real Madrid.
"He deserved this opportunity. He proved himself to be a great coach in Germany, and I'm sure he'll be able to prove it in Madrid as well."
