Rüdiger played 26 games in all competitions for Madrid last season as injuries limited his availability. He recently accepted a lesser role at the side, admitting that he knows his place as he turns 33 years old.
“That’s my role, and I accept and respect it. In the end, the important thing is the team.”
The German international will now remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for one more season as confirmed by the club on Tuesday morning in what is welcome news for Madrid fans.
“Real Madrid C. F. and Antonio Rüdiger have agreed to extend the contract of our player, binding him to the club until June 30, 2027.”
The announcement of Rüdiger’s new deal comes a day after Madrid signed left back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea as the Spanish giants try to build a squad that can end their trophyless spell which has extended to two campaigns.
Rudiger will stay under new boss Jose Mourinho who has also captured Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva. The defender is currently representing Germany at the World Cup where he helped in the 7-1 win against Curacao.
