Real Madrid announced the £51.8M signing of Cucurella on a six-year deal this week, in a deal that had been brewing for several weeks.
Chelsea signed Cucurella from Brighton four years ago for £63m so take a slight loss on the 27-year-old who made 163 appearances for the club, winning the Conference League and Club World Cup.
As his move is confirmed by both clubs, details have emerged surrounding his move as journalist Ben Jacobs revealed on Monday afternoon.
“More on Marc Cucurella's Chelsea exit. Understand Cucurella expressed a desire to return to Spain for personal and family reasons.
“Chelsea worked to find the best solution. €55m+€5m viewed as strong fee by the club.
“Jorrel Hato’s development last season was also a contributing factor in sanctioning the exit.
“Chelsea now want to add at least two starting-level players that can immediately compete in the Premier League.”
Cucurella is currently at the World Cup with Spain, who play their first Group H match against Cape Verde on Monday. The now Real Madrid star won’t face any of his new teammates however, as zero Madrid players made it into the Spain squad this summer.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho will officially start work at his new club next month with new signings Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva in what has been a busy summer for the side.
