Cucurella informed the Blues of his desire to leave the club during this summer's transfer window and he has now found his escape to the Spanish capital as Los Blancos snap him up.
According to reports, Chelsea had agreed a £51.7M total package for Cucurella to join Madrid, which is believed to include an initial fee worth £47.4M plus a further £4.3M in add-ons.
Real Madrid confirm Cucurella deal
The Spanish giants confirmed the deal on Monday morning in a deal that has been brewing for several weeks.
“Real Madrid C. F. and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”
Cucurella joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion and was part of the team that lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last year.
He leaves after Chelsea went trophyless under managers Enzo Maresca, Liam Rosenior and interim boss Calum McFarlane last season as the club also failed to secure European football.
Chelsea wave goodbye
Chelsea also released a statement, thanking the defender for his service to the side: "Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid."
"Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements.
"We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career."
Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso will now have to replace the defender ahead of the new season, as he prepares to step into the role on July 1st.
