Liverpool are set to hold talks with the FA and Crystal Palace over a tribute to forward Diogo Jota, who sadly passed away on Thursday morning.

Jota and his brother Andre Silva sadly died on Thursday morning after a tragic car crash whilst they were traveling to the ferry that would take the Liverpool star back to the United Kingdom. Messages and tributes have flooded in for the pair in what is one of football’s biggest tragedies in history.

Jota was advised not to fly having recently undergone surgery to correct damage from a collapsed lung. He therefore attempted to take the ferry which he likely would never have done if it wasn’t for the injury he picked up last season.

Now, according to BBC Sport‘s Sami Mokbel, there are plans in place for a tribute to late Liverpool striker at the Community Sheild which will take place on the 10th of August.  The FA will hold talks with both Liverpool and Crystal Palace before the game but it is likely both will agree to any tribute for the Portuguese international.

Normally black armbands and periods of silence are used to honour those who have lost their lives. However, the BBC reports that the governing body will take guidance from Liverpool with regards to appropriate tributes before confirming any plans which means a more personal tribute could occur.

A funeral for Jota and his brother will take place in Portugal on Saturday morning, his former teammates and those who loved the forward will be in attendance in what will be a sad day for football.
