Jota and his brother Andre passed away after a car crash on his way to Liverpool on Thursday morning in news that shook the world. Messages from around the planet, from rival clubs to current first-team players, have been posted in support of their family and to remember the two players in what is one of the biggest football tragedies in recent times.
Salah has become the latest to share a touching message to his former teammate, a day after the event as he took his time taking in what had happened.
"I am truly lost for words. Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break. Teammates come and go but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.
"My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten."
According to Egyptian publication Yallakora, Salah is said to be set to return to England on Friday after the news of Jota's death as much like his teammates he had been enjoying some downtime in the off-season after winning the Premier League.
The new had obviously hit Salah hard much like the rest of his teammates. Liverpool have postponed their preseason for the time being as the club grieves. The Reds are set to face Preston North End in 9 days, Ac Milan 13 days afterward, and then Yokohama Marinos, which may now be suspended.
