Earlier this month, reports stated that AC Milan, Juventus and Manchester United are all interested in signing Tonali before it was revealed that the Italian star has signed a contract extension in secret to secure his future with the side.
Whilst his current contract on Tyneside has at least three and a half years left to run, many have questioned whether the former Milan playmaker will be in Tyneside in years to come as fans speculate about his loyalty.
Speaking this week, Tonali name-dropped Alexander Isak, who controversially left for Liverpool in the summer as he opened up about where he might be in a few years time.
“This is a tough question because, you know, (in) football you need to think year for year. I don’t want to say I want to stay here 10 years and in two years, three years, four years, five years I will go.
“I want to think, just for me, year for year. This is football. The last summer was tough for us, for Alex (Isak), but this is football.
"If you have an option for your life, for another team, you need to think about everything. I don't want to say 'Yes, I want to stay here 10 years' but now I'm happy here. I don't think anything about another team."
The 25-year-old was exceptional in Newcastle United’s win over Athletic Club as The Magpies continued their impressive Champions League run. Tonali’s future looks to be secured for a number of years to come, but the midfielder is clearly open to a move if the time is right.
