Pedro Porro has admitted that Tottenham could field a starting XI of injured stars and it would be better than the current team.

Spurs have eight players unavailable for the trip to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League including:

Destiny Udogie, Lucas Bergvall, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Ben Davies and Wilson Odobert.

Tottenham extended their winless run to 11 league games after a loss to Crystal Palace as relegation looms over the club who are in dire straits.

With so many injuries and the threat of falling to the Championship, Porro has claimed that starting injured players would benefit a side who just can’t seem to get themselves together.

“It’s difficult, because when you’re competing in four competitions under these circumstances… we already had that bad experience last year in the Premier League with so many injured players, and you just can’t compete,” he told Radio Marca.

“We have young players coming on strong, and looking at this season, it’s basically the same. You’re going to play against Arsenal, (Man) City, Liverpool, or Chelsea, and you just can’t.”

“We could field a starting XI of injured players that might even be stronger than the 11 that’s currently playing. It’s not out of disrespect to anyone, but that’s basically the reality.

“We have to think and maintain a positive mindset. I’ve told my teammates, it’s difficult to compete like this, but we always have to give 100%, even though things aren’t going well in the Premier League, just like last year.

“We’re going to approach the tie with the same ambition we’ve shown so far in the Champions League.”

Spurs are looking for their first win since beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at the end of January and the odds are stacked against them as they prepare to face La Liga giants Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.
