After losing just two of his 14 games as interim manager and securing Champions League football with a win over Liverpool last weekend, Carrick has been an outright success at United so far.
The Red Devils finished down in 15th place under former boss Ruben Amorim last season but now, if Liverpool lose and Carrick’s side collect 3 points, they are guaranteed a spot inside the top 3.
At the Stadium of Light, United have lost just one of their 15 visits in the top flight and Carrick will seek to continue this record against a Sunderland side who didn't lose at home this term until Liverpool beat them in mid-February.
Sunderland have prevailed in only three of their 33 Premier League encounters with United but will be happy regardless after avoiding relegation after being promoted this season.
Ahead of the clash, Carrick’s side will miss 3 players in Matthijs de Ligt (Lower Back Injury), Lisandro Martinez (Suspended), Benjamin Sesko (Calf/Shin/Heel Injury) despite there being almost a week since United last played.
The good news for United fans is that Carrick did not address Sesko’s fitness at his pre-match press conference, meaning he could be back as he avoids revealing anymore details on the striker.
Sunderland have lost four of their last five home games and will be hoping that United are not as ruthless as they have been now that Champions League football is confirmed.
