Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has called for Florian Wirtz to be dropped from manager Arne Slot's side.

Following his summer switch from Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz has yet to make the impact many would have expected in Merseyside as fans eagerly await for him to grab his first goal contribution.

Off the back of a late 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend, Liverpool collapsed against Galatasaray in the Champions League. Wirtz was one of a few players who fans attacked online after the game, claiming they were not fit to wear the shirt.

Now, Carragher has jumped on the bandwagon and suggest that even though Wirtz is just 22 years old, he should be dropped by Slot who isn’t getting the best out of him so far.

“Right now, the balance of the team is not right, and the obvious one that stands out is Florian Wirtz, who is just not at the races at all. He's a young boy, coming to a new league, and has plenty of time to go.

“But right now, he needs to come out of the team, Liverpool go back to what they were last season, and try to build some confidence and some stability. Right now it looks like a mess."

The German international looked bright in the opening stages of the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace at the start of the season but since then has failed to deliver on the pitch despite several being handed several chances.

Wirtz admitted earlier in the season that he will need time to adjust:

"It's another league, another type of football. I'm happy to be there. I have no idea when I'll score my first goal, hopefully in the next game, but it will come at some point."
