Borussia Dortmund boss Niko Kovac has opened up on Jobe Bellingham's poor start at the club.

Bellingham has made just two starts in all competitions since moving to the Bundesliga giants this summer for an initial £26.9M deal as he follows in the footsteps of his brother Jude.

In an interview with Kicker, Dortmund coach Niko Kovac explained why the youngster hasn't been given more minutes despite often being touted as the star of the club.

“Everyone wants to play more. Everyone wants to play every minute. But then you only have eleven players,” Kovac said.

“When you sign a contract here, it’s not only well paid, but it also means there’s a lot of competition,” he added.

Kovas also stated that the England Under-21 star does not help himself with media attention which puts a lot of pressure on the midfielder who is constantly compared to his brother at Real Madrid

“Jobe is a player who has great potential, but a player who naturally has to grow into the game here.

“You can’t make the mistake of applying too much pressure, despite the name.

"I think that’s not doing the boy any favours, and the boy isn’t doing himself any favours.”

Dortmund next face Mainz in the Bundesliga and Kovac will be monitoring Bellingham’s performance once again as he avoids media reports and tries to lock in to the new season which is getting away from him.
