With the Portuguese battling to prove his value as United manager, Toppmoller has openly touted himself for the Old Trafford post.
“Basically it's a dream to be at Frankfurt. It's simply a fantastic club,” he said on the Phrasenmaeher podcast. “Here, as a teenager, I witnessed for the first time that my father was a Bundesliga coach. That naturally creates an emotional bond with the club.
“Thinking about abroad, I often played computer games as a child, always with one team: Manchester United. That would definitely be nice some day because it's an extraordinary club. When I was a teenager, Manchester United were along with Real Madrid the biggest club of all.”
Toppmoller, 44, is regarded highly inside German football, and his Eintracht Frankfurt thrashed Galatasaray 5-1 in their first match of the Champions League group phase.
They are currently sixth in the Bundesliga having won two and lost two of their opening four games.
