Chiefs are at the Mbombela Stadium to clash with promoted Kriger United later that evening in what will be a first competitive outing under new coach Fernando Da Cruz.
Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to regain their Betway Premiership title and open their campaign at home to Marumo Gallants at Loftus Stadium, also on August 1.
The quarter-finals of the MTN8 are due to take place the following weekend on August 8-9.
Other fixtures on the opening day see Lamontville Golden Arrows welcome Chippa United to the King Zwelithini Stadium, while AmaZulu travel to the Danie Craven Stadium to meet Gavin Hunt’s Stellenbosch FC.
There will be a battle between thetwo former Chiefs coaches as Cedric Kaze’s Sekhukhune United welcome Khilal Ben Youssef’s Durban City to the new New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
There are also scheduled to be two matches on Sunday, August 2.
Richards Bay welcome Polokwane City to the uMhlathuze Sports Complex, while Siwelele FC host TS Galaxy at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
