Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of Dutch attacking midfielder Rai Vloet to add to their capture of veteran midfielder Thabang Monare.

Vloet, 31, joins as a free agent, having not had a professional club since a spell with Russian side Ural ended in June 2024.

In April 2023, he was convicted of drunk driving in the Netherlands in an incident that led to the death of a four-year-old boy, and for which he was later sentenced to 30 months in prison.

He was released after serving 20 months on May 20 this year, and will now seek to restart his football career in the South African second tier.

Vloet has had a journeyman career that started in the PSV Eindhoven juniors, and has also taken him to Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and Kazakhstan.

He played a handful of matches early in his career at PSV, including in the UEFA Champions League, though that was some 11 years ago now.

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Monare was also unveiled on Sunday following his departure from top-flight Sekhukhune United.

Monare brings a wealth of experience to the centre of the park and is a good addition for the Cape Town club as they seek a return to the South African top flight following their relegation in 2024/25.

Former Bafana Bafana star Monare has made over 370 appearances in the PSL since starting his career at Jomo Cosmos. He has also played for BidVest Wits.

Vloet will wear the number 10 and Monare the number 8 this coming season.
