The self-proclaimed "Special One" is returning to Los Blancos 13 years after leaving the club, and his first plan of action in the Real dugout is capturing defensive reinforcements.
According to AS, Mourinho has requested the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Arsenal or Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol, two players capable of operating at centre-back and left-back.
Gianluca Di Marzio has backed up those claims by stating that Madrid are willing to open negotiations with Calafiori's representatives to determine whether Arsenal are willing to sell the defender.
The 24-year-old played a crucial role for the Gunners during their title-winning triumph, but could reunite with Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu after working with him at Roma previously.
He was part of Roma's Europa Conference League-winning squad under the Portuguese tactician in 2022; however, he only featured 12 times during that campaign and left in the following summer to join Basel.
Calafiori has since watched his stock and value skyrocket since moving to Arsenal from Bologna in 2024, becoming one of Mikel Arteta's most important players. Though with Real pursuing the Italian, it will be interesting to whether he wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
