Trent Alexander-Arnold had a message for England boss Thomas Tuchel after being overlooked for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 27-year-old struggled for consistent form in his debut 2026/27 season at Real Madrid after a controversial move from Liverpool - and after playing a limited role for England since Tuchel's arrival at the start of 2025 - and he was one of several high profile omissions from the squad which headed to North America.

England's right-back issues came into sharp focus during the tournament with Tuchel forced to make several changes in the position following injuries and suspensions alongside facing questions over his call not to bring Trent.

In his absence, England reached the semi-finals, but Trent was clear on the call to confirm he would be staying in Spain for the summer was a tense exchange with Tuchel.

"I'll be honest, I was full of hope. When I put the phone down, I was properly gutted." he told an interview with Mirror Sport.

"I hope the coaching staff would expect and understand that I was angry about it. I’d made no plans for my summer because I hoped I’d be in the squad.

"The manager wants players who are desperate to play for England. I'm one of those. Until I retire, I'm still an England player, whether I'm selected or not."
