Thomas Tuchel has defended England's reliance on captain Harry Kane.

England’s 0-0 draw with Ghana showed how toothless Tuchel’s attack can be when Kane isn’t firing on all cylinders.

Both sides look all but assured of a place in the round of 32 after this stalemate, but questions have been raised about the Three Lions and the team’s over reliance on Kane in attack.

Kane is arguably the world’s best striker at the moment and cored 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern Munich in the 2025–26 season across all competitions in what was another incredible campaign for the 32-year-old.

Speaking after the Ghana clash, Tuchel was asked if his side are relying too much on the Bayern star which he instantly denied.

"Does Argentina rely too heavily on (Lionel) Messi and France rely too heavily on (Kylian) Mbappe? It is just what it is.

"They are world class players and they do normally what they do. Everyone is pushing and we had three different goalscorers in the first match.

“To rely on Harry is just a natural thing because he loves the responsibility and he takes it... We rely on Harry because we can, because he's our forward but we don't over-rely on him."

Kane is likely to start once more against Panama this weekend as Tuchel tries to put some power back into his attack who will seek to prove that they do not need Kane to be at his best.
