England boss Thomas Tuchel has hit out at FIFA over their decision to extend Jarell Quansah's 2026 World Cup suspension from one game to two.

Quansah was shown a straight red card by match referee Alireza Faghani after a lengthy VAR review in the second half at the Estadio Azteca for a late challenge on Jesus Gallardo.

His dismissal piled the pressure on England in the closing stags as Tuchel's ten men clung on for a 3-2 win to set up a quarterfinal date with Norway in Miami.

England had hoped to only be without the Bayer Leverkusen defender for the Norway clash, with the expectation of him being back available for a possible semi-final, but FIFA chose to make it a two-game ban as a result of the challenge being considered as 'serious foul play'.

Tuchel was critical of the officials in his post-match interview, claiming the 'referees are just not good enough at this World Cup', and FIFA's call comes on the back of their highly controversial decision to overturn Folarin Balogun's suspension with little explanation.

Ahead of taking on Norway, Tuchel reiterated his frustration and the German coach has been left with no news from football's governing body.

"We have no explanation. I don't know if my comments had an impact on the decision to upgrade it."

Tuchel now faces a crunch call on who to start as Quansah's replacement at right-back, with Reece James only just back in full training, and Ezri Konsa possibly being moved out of position to cover.
