Haaland’s seven goals have kept him right in the hunt for the Golden Boot at the 2026 tournament as Norway continue to make history with Manchester City’s No.9 leading the charge.
The prospect of extra time and penalties will cause nerves for both sides, despite England’s improved shootout record in recent years, but Norway have never been involved in spot kick stand-off in their history.
Haaland is out in front as Norway’s all-time leading scorer with a sensational 62 goals in 54 caps and six of those have come from the penalty spot.
From eight taken for his country, Haaland has only failed to convert twice, and he netted five out of six penalties for City last season.
A 75% success rate for his country is a strong record, as his shootout record for City, scoring in both shootouts he’s been involved in for the Premier League giants.
A Norway penalty in regular/extra time will be taken by Haaland without doubt, but there are questions over who could step up in a shootout, with Thelo Aasgaard and Jorgen Strand Larsen the only other Norway players to take a penalty (with both scoring) for Stale Solbakken’s team to date.
Both players are unlikely to start against England, so that could be a tactical call for Solbakken if penalties are on the cards, and Alexander Sorloth and Martin Odegaard would also be candidates with the Arsenal captain netting three of four penalties for the Gunners.
