La Roja topped Group H in the first phase of the competition with seven points gained from three matches and the European champions remain among the favourites to claim the world title later this month.
Luis de la Fuente's charges battled over the line in a 1-0 win against Uruguay to confirm their progression and that result came at a cost for Spain.
Crystal Palace winger Yeremy Pino was forced to play the final minutes with a suspected broken shoulder as all five substitutes had been used by De la Fuente at the Estadio Akron.
The Uruguay game was Pino's second appearance off the bench at the World Cup, but De la Fuente's post-match update was not positive on the former Villarreal man.
"It looked like Yeremy may have broken his collarbone. He suffered a lot and the effort he made was tremendous, possibly with a broken collarbone to hold on until the end of the match. It was heroic and I'm very grateful, like all of his teammates."
However, following tests on the injury by Spain's medical team, no fracture was detected and he should be named on the bench against Austria at the SoFi Stadium.
De la Fuente also confirmed there are no further fitness issues over Lamine Yamal or Victor Munoz with the latter yet to feature at the World Cup.
Nico Williams will not be risked against Ralf Rangnick's side, but there's no long-term concern over him, with De la Fuente prepared to use him if Spain progress on to the last 16.
