Four years after the two nations faced off in the semifinals in Qatar, France and Morocco meet in Boston on Thursday as they compete for a place in the next stage of the World Cup.
France have been on fire this summer, with a strong defence alongside attackers such as Desire Doue, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola all finding the back of the net.
The European side are the favourites to pick apart Morocco whilst also being placed alongside Spain, England and Argentina to go all the way this summer.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer World Cup odds, Petit said predicted that Les Bleus would tear apart Morocco despite many of the players being close.
“It will be a difficult game for France. Morocco will drop back as a unit, but they have quality in transition with fast, technical players. We have to be very careful.
“France has enough quality to beat them. I expect a fight on the pitch, especially Achraf Hakimi against Barcola or Doué, they know each other well from PSG.
“It is special because many are friends in life. However, France has all the weapons needed to score against any team, whether through transition, individual brilliance, or build-up play. France will win it. I would say 3-1.
“France have everything needed to win the World Cup. The game against Paraguay was like England against Mexico or Argentina against Egypt, qualifying was very difficult. Mentally, and in terms of confidence, it's a huge bonus for the whole team.”
Morocco will try to finally beat France within 90 minutes at the seventh time of asking, having lost four of six meetings so far.
