American YouTuber Stevewilldoit gifted Mexico a range of watches that the squad are now having to return.

Mexico host England 2,200 metres above sea level at the Estadio Azteca on Monday morning as passionate fans prepare to keep the Three Lions awake this weekend with drums, whistles, horns and music.

Stevewilldoit, real name Stephen Deleonardis reportedly spent $1m (£747,000) on Rolex watches for every Mexico player and member of staff ahead of the game, gifts which will now have to be returned.

This comes from the BBC who report that Fifa's Code of Ethics states that such gifts can only be offered or accepted if they "have symbolic or trivial value".

The Sun stated this week that such gifts came after Delleoanadis had previously bet $2M on Mexico defeating Ecuador, a game in which the side won 2-0 thanks to goals from Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez.

The Mexican Football Association announced via social media, “By mutual agreement, our players have decided to return the watches voluntarily gifted by the content creator.”

Heading into the England clash, Mexico have never lost a World Cup game at the Azteca where the side have played 89 competitive games at the stadium over the last 60 years and have won 70 of them, drawing 17 and only losing twice in what is an incredible record.
