Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has warned that England should not make a move for Pep Guardiola.

The Three Lions suffered World Cup heartache in devastating circumstances in Atlanta as they crashed out of the tournament thanks to a loss against Argentina.

Manager Thomas Tuchel is under immense pressure following the knockout as after Anthony Gordon's opener, England sat back and invited pressure, allowing Argentina to dominate.

The German boss remains tied down until Euro 2028 and confirmed after the final whistle that he intends to see out the remainder of his contract.

Despite this, bookmakers have linked former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to the role after he left the side this summer.

Speaking in association with UniBet Online Casino via GOAL, Lescott revealed that the Spanish manager will stay well clear.

“I don't think Pep is bored, and hearing how fast people can turn on you, I don't think he would want the role!

“So in regards to Thomas Tuchel, I think we should be frustrated that we've been knocked out, but I don't think we should point the blame on anyone in particular straight away. I think there's no divine right to win the World Cup, especially when you get to the semi-finals against the world champions and arguably the greatest player that has ever played the game.

“So the fact that we got there, I think we didn't overachieve in getting there, we were expected to get there, we were top-four seeded, and so were the other teams, and now it's down to whatever happens on the night. Unfortunately for us, it didn't pan out for our best interest.”

Guardiola, 55, is available for work after walking away from the Etihad, but it does not look like he will be managing the Three Lions anytime soon.
