Lamine Yamal has equalled Pele's World Cup record after becoming only the second player aged 18 or younger to open the scoring in a FIFA World Cup match.

The Spain star achieved the feat during his first World Cup start, finding the net after just 10 minutes against Saudi Arabia

Following a disappointing draw with Cape Verde in their opening fixture, Luis de la Fuente’s side needed a strong response and got exactly that.

Yamal converted a dangerous ball across the face of goal at the back post to give Spain an early advantage.

In doing so, he joined Brazilian legend Pele, who achieved the same milestone as a 17-year-old against Wales at the 1958 World Cup.

Spain went on to dominate the contest, with Mikel Oyarzabal adding a quickfire brace as the first half ended 3-0 in favour of the Europeans.
