Jurgen Klopp says that Liverpool tried to sign France and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe.

The 59-year-old was seen chatting with Mbappe following France's 2-0 win over Morocco in the World Cup quarter-final last night, as the pair pointed to Mbappe's mother in the stands.

Mbappe said: "I talked to Liverpool, the favourite club of my mum; she loves them!"

Klopp, the newly appointed Germany boss, revealed the full story.

“The most non-expensive transfer we invested in. We flew from Blackpool to Nice. In Nice, the whole Mbappé family got on board a private plane with five rooms or something”.

“It was a very big plane. We really went big. Then we flew around in a circle, talked to the family and we ate good food”.

"All of this happened… in the plane. We were not allowed to be seen. So we flew in a circle. It was fantastic”.

"We flew, ate, had good time… then he went to Paris."

It could have been entirely different career trajectory for Mbappe had Klopp convinced him that day in 2017, as France's star man went level again with Lionel Messi in the hunt for the World Cup Golden Boot with his goal against Morocco last night.
