France's second game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Iraq has been plunged into doubt amid an incoming storm in the Philadelphia area in the coming hours.

Didier Deschamps' side cruised to a 3-1 win over Senegal in their Group I opener in New Jersey as Iraq lost 4-1 to Norway in Massachusetts both on June 22nd.

However, as both sides head south, the weather has taken a dramatic turn and their clash at the Lincoln Financial Field could be hit by several delays, as per the latest update from FIFA.

The game is due to kick off at 5pm local time (10pm UK) but weather reports on the ground are predicting heavy rain and potential lightning ahead of the clash and potentially during the game itself.

That means FIFA will enact emergency weather protocols including keeping fans inside the stadium concourse or emergency shelter facilities to avoid the risk of an open-air lightning strike.

FIFA regulations state the game must be halted if lightning strikes within eight miles of the stadium with fans removed from their seats as a precaution.

Play then cannot resume until there has been 30 lightning-free minutes in the local area with the possibility of the game stretching on for several hours or being postponed until tomorrow.

Both scenarios are being considered by FIFA and stadium officials in what would be the first weather impacted game at the 2026 tournament.
