The defending champions made a stunning late comeback to seal a 3-2 win over Egypt, but the game wasn’t without controversy following VAR errors and fouls being ignored.
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan ripped into FIFA after the game and stated he will not force himself to watch any more of the competition.
"I'm going home and won't be watching any more games from the tournament.
"What happened to us wasn't fair. We should have had a penalty, a goal was disallowed, and I don't know why it was disallowed."
Pharaohs striker Mostafa Zico also claimed the showdown had been “rigged” as Egypt spoke out on what they believe was a corrupt game.
Now, as per journalist Ismael Mahmoud as well as Fabrizio Romano, an official complaint has been made.
“BREAKING: Egyptian Federation Association President Hany Abo Rida has filed an official complaint against French referee François Letexier & his assistants following Egypt's 3-2 loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.
“He demanded an investigation into controversial decisions against the Pharaohs and officially requested the exclusion of the French refereeing team from the rest of the tournament due to their crucial mistakes.”
Argentina will now face Switzerland with a place in the World Cup semi-finals up for grabs as Egypt watch on, knowing that if decisions had gone their way it could have been them progressing.
