Two goals in the final stages from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez - both via assists from Lionel Messi - saw the defending champions over the line and into the final.
Alongside the exploits of Messi in attack, Argentina's defence came under major pressure in added time, with centre-back duo Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martinez at the heart of their efforts.
Both players have been ever-present in Argentina's World Cup campaign and picked up bookings against England as the battle wore on.
However, it was Tottenham star Romero who had the final say and he called out former Manchester United defender Gary Neville for his pre-game comments on the pair's unreliability.
"I hope when I retire, I'm not that stupid. Hopefully I won't criticise a player or anyone," he told DSports, reported via BBC Sport.
"We're doing our best for our national team. Sometimes it goes right for us, sometimes badly, but we're happy to be in a World Cup final again.
"We're used to people always talking about us. It seems they like doing it, and we respond on the pitch, that's it, always with respect," added Martinez.
Both players are expected to start the final with Nahuel Molina and Gonzalo Montiel battling to start at right-back.
