Tuchel opted to start the veteran defender in England's Group L opener against Croatia with the 32-year-old completing 87 minutes in the 4-2 win in Arlington.
The call to lean on Stones' experience helped England against Croatia as the former Manchester City defender made his 13th appearance at World Cup despite only starting five Premier League games for Pep Guardiola last season due to several injury issues.
The debate over which two from Stones, Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa should start against Ghana in Foxborough is a key one for Tuchel and former EPL star Sutton claims Stones should make way.
"Why is the debate Guehi for Konsa and not Stones? I’d have Guehi and Konsa because they are the best defenders.
"Don’t get me wrong, Stones has been a great player and I have huge respect for his career, but you're talking about a guy who doesn’t even have a club for next season yet.
"I don’t think Stones has the athleticism which the other two possess. Konsa and Guehi have better attributes in 1v1 situations than Stones, and there'll be times in games when they'll be isolated against players of the highest class."
Konsa was Tuchel's favoured choice in qualification with Stones and Guehi starting three games each on route to the World Cup.
