Jurgen Klopp is on course to be confirmed as the new Germany national team boss before the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Germany bowed out of the competition at the Round of 32 stage as they suffered a shock loss to Paraguay with Julian Nagelsmann stepping down shortly after.

Nagelsmann had signed a contract extension running through UEFA Euro 2028 prior to the World Cup, but following Germany's failure in North America, Klopp has now been pursued as first-choice to replace the former Bayern Munich boss.

As per reports from Sky Germany, a key breakthrough has been made in talks between Klopp and representatives from the German FA in New York across the last 24 hours, and the ex-Liverpool boss is set to sign a contract until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

Klopp is currently working as a pundit for several TV stations at the World Cup, and he's declined to answer questions over his incoming role, but he's expected to wrap up his departure as head of global soccer at Red Bull following talks with chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff.

His agreement at Red Bull included a special break clause, if he was to be offered the Germany job, and it will bring Klopp back into a managerial role for the first time since leaving Liverpool in 2024.

Klopp is expected to be in place for the start of Germany's Nations League campaign at the end of September with a double header up against the Netherlands and Greece.
