Brighton are closing in on a move for Venezia captain Michael Svoboda, with the Premier League club reportedly ready to trigger the defender’s €6 million release clause.

The 27-year-old Austrian centre-back has emerged as a key target after an impressive season in Italy, where he played a leading role in Venezia’s promotion back to Serie A.

Svoboda made 30 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing three goals and two assists as Venezia secured the Serie B title.

His expected departure will be a major setback for Venezia, who now face the challenge of replacing both their captain and defensive leader.

Reports suggest the Italian club are already planning several signings to strengthen Giovanni Stroppa’s squad ahead of the new Serie A campaign.
