Both men have arrived this summer to boost a flagging Milan which missed European qualification last season.
Speaking after their 1-1 draw with Leeds in Dublin, Allegri told Sky Italia: "I've had very few, if any, great players with little intelligence and humility. To play at a high level, you have to be humble and intelligent. Modric, it's not for me to say, is an extraordinary player.
"I was surprised by how (Ardon) Jashari performed because he barely worked with the ball and trained almost always alone. We need to improve and work hard, to improve our physical condition and mental conviction. We shouldn't get too excited; winning games is the norm for Milan."
On the squad overall, Allegri added: "They've always taught me that players should always be trained before making judgments. We've been working well so far; we shouldn't get too excited. We need to work with great balance; that will have to be our strength. The championship isn't won or lost in one match."
