Former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid manager Alonso is set to formally take charge of Chelsea in July after being appointed as the club’s new manager on a four-year contract.
The Spaniard replaces Liam Rosenior and ahead of the new season he is clearly keen to get started as he was spotted at Cobham, according to The Standard.
This report claims that Alonso discussed a range of topics with Chelsea staff which included transfers and the upcoming pre-season campaign which will see the side jet off to Australia and Asia.
There is expected to be plenty of change at Stamford Bridge this summer, as top stars are linked with moves away from the club including Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea legend Joe Cole recently spoke on the futures of the pair who he thinks could be allowed to leave as Alonso prepares for huge changes in West London.
“One of the biggest things Mikel Arteta did early on was get rid of Lacazette and Aubameyang, and this could be a similar situation,’ Cole noted.
“But like I said, that can’t be influenced by directors of football. Xabi Alonso will be working day-to-day, he’ll know the relationship, he’ll see the body language, he’ll see the little looks, he’ll know whether the players are with him or not, and he’ll know how valuable the players are. So all I’m saying is Xabi Alonso has to make the decisions.”
