Wrexham AFC have signed Conor Coady from Leicester City as they prepare for life in the Championship.

Coady, 32, passed his medical at Wrexham on Friday and signs in a deal worth in the region of £2M as he makes the switch from The Foxes to The Red Dragons. The former Wolves, Everton and Liverpool defender had one year remaining on his current Leicester contract and the club clearly felt it was time to cash in on him before he left for free.

Coady brings a wealth of experience to Wrexham and will help manager Phil Parkinson and his side in their attempt to not only avoid relegation this season but push into the promotion spots in an attempt to make their dream of playing in the Premier League come true.

On signing for Wrexham, he said: “I’m over the moon. It’s a special day, I’ll be honest.

“We’ve all seen what the Club has done over the past few years and for me to join is really special and I can’t wait to meet the boys and get started.”

Wrexham, co-owned by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are back in the second tier for the first time since 1982 and Coady is just one of six permanent signings as they continue their push from non-league to the Premier League in what has been an impressive climb up the football pyramid. Parkinson also commented on the deal as he welcomed the Liverpool born defender to the side:

“We’re delighted to welcome Conor to the Club. He’s a player who has experience in the Premier League and Championship and will be a great addition to the squad.
