The 26-year-old Brazilian confirmed to Kicker that Brentford showed interest in him.
"There was interest, which basically made me feel good at first,“ said Souza.
However, he chose to stay – also because Wolfsburg wanted to keep him.
The fact that he found himself on the bench more and more often gave Souza pause for thought.
"Honestly. Of course I thought about what was happening here and why I suddenly didn't get another chance. It was hard for me: First I didn't play in my position, then at some point I stopped playing at all," he said.
But under new coach Dieter Hecking he hopes for a fresh chance: "He gives me trust. He tells me that my season starts now. Of course, this increases my self-confidence.“
