Amid talk of negotiating a release from his contract, Wilson jumped from the bench to score on 93 minutes for the 2-1 victory.
“There’s no better feeling than scoring a last-minute winner!” smiled Wilson. “I think that’s the experience – I know where the goal is, and thankfully it paid off today.
“Normally when you’re coming on so late in a game, you’re maybe looking to get the team up the pitch and hold up the ball, to give the team a platform to build on.
“But they were on top, and the goal kind of came against the run of play right at the end. The chest and volley might have been nicer to watch back, because it wasn’t the prettiest of goals, but it was definitely a nice moment!
“I was in the right place at the right time. I was in that position, and I think it was just natural instinct to keep myself onside. I know it was checked (by VAR), but I had no doubts – I was getting lost in the celebrations!
“It was a brilliant moment, and it’s a good example of having a job to do and the importance of staying professional when you’re not playing as many minutes. If you keep working you get your rewards, and hopefully this is something we can build on now.”
And amid claims of Wilson leaving the Irons, the veteran striker spoke like he was planning for the opposite on Saturday evening.
He added: “We definitely want to build now. I think the (Emirates FA) Cup game (against Queens Park Rangers) came at a good time last weekend, and having got the result there, that gave us something to work from.
“We’ve had a big game in the league, and come away with the three points, so now we just need to keep doing what we’re doing, and hopefully we can start climbing that league.”
