Lamine Yamal has been wearing a headband during the World Cup and the reason why has been discovered.

Portugal and Spain go head-to-head at the AT&T Stadium on Monday night in what is arguably the biggest clash in the Round of 16.

After the first knockout round, Spain remain one of only two teams that have not conceded a goal in this World Cup as they continue their ruthless run under manager Luis de la Fuente.

The European champions also did not face a single shot on target in their last-32 match, leading to many pitting them up against France and Argentina as favourites to go all the way and lift the World Cup this summer.

Key to Spain’s success so far, Yamal has been incredible for De la Fuente’s side once more. Despite his fine form, many have claimed the teenager has developed an ego and his confidence stems from hubris even as Spain nonetheless continues to perform.

Yamal grabbed the attention of fans by wearing a headband bearing the words “ego Yamal” during the Austria game in response to TikTok users mockingly calling him “Ego Lamine”.

The 18 year old has been praised for being mentally strong against criticism as he turned the hate into motivation that he proudly wears on his head for what might be the remainder of the tournament.

Yamal, Porro, Dani Olmo or Aymeric Laporte all didn’t fully train this week but none is said to be carrying a serious issue ahead of the Portugal clash.
