Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha will not be able to feature at the World Cup this summer even if England injuries occur.

Ngumoha has an excellent start to his senior England career, winning the Player of the Match award on his debut as he dazzled against New Zealand on Saturday night.

The 17 year old was only a second half substitute but impressed supporters who suggested that the teenager should have made the full squad.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford praised Ngumoha after the final whistle, suggesting he isn’t scared of the pressure.

“He was quality, nothing fazed him. He’s had a really good season at Liverpool and the manager gave him his debut and he showed how good he is.

“All the young lads have been brilliant in training, they have moulded into the squad and helped us massively and it also shows the talent we have in the system.

“It is a credit to the academies and the pathway we have in English football.”

Ngumoha became the fifth-youngest player to represent England in history, only behind only Theo Walcott, Wayne Rooney, Jude Bellingham and James Prinsep.

However, despite his impressive form, Ngumoha wasn’t among the 55 names included in that provisional list which means if England do suffer injuries he won’t be able to replace anyone in the squad.

Ngumoha is still eligible to play in the final friendly game against Costa Rica however and will likely come on as a substitute once more as manager Thomas Tuchel prepares for their opening World Cup clash against Croatia.
