Sporting Braga coach Carlos Vicens says victory over Nottingham Forest was deserved on Thursday night.

Braga won 1-0 thanks to a Forest own goal, with their captain Morgan Gibbs-White having a penalty saved by Lukas Hornicek the previous minute.

Vicens said afterwards:  "Lukáš Horníček completed another great match, with impactful actions on the pitch. Obviously the penalty, but also all the moments where he showed how good he is.

"We are very pleased to have him with us. He’s having a great season and I think he’s helping the team a lot, and the team is helping him as well. So we’re very happy."

He also said, “We knew it was going to be a tough game against a Premier League team that were able to draw with Arsenal a few days ago. We knew we wouldn’t survive tonight if we weren’t ourselves on the pitch.

"I think we played with identity and personality, and a lot of our success came from how we were able to control the ball, insisting on keeping possession and trying to attack through it.

"With their physicality and quality, if you focus only on defending, you’re not going to survive.”

Vicens was particularly pleased with the way Braga handled the pressure on the night.

He concluded: “I think this team is there when it matters. The team doesn’t get carried away by the negative aspects of the game. We conceded a penalty, but the team stayed focused.

"We then faced some situations that put us in danger of conceding, yet the team kept going and always believed there was a possibility of winning the game right until the end.”
