Xabi Alonso turned down the chance to return to Liverpool this month as he opted to head to Chelsea, a club who sacked two different managers this season.
The Spaniard signed a four-year deal and starts work in July where he will lead the club in a heavy pre-season where fans will hope the club can get back to their best.
Alonso brings title-winning pedigree following his success at Bayer Leverkusen, but many know he struggled at Real Madrid.
Strachan admitted to Andy's Bet Club that he is worried for the former midfielder who he thinks could be in for trouble.
“Xabi Alonso hasn’t jumped into the deep end, he’s jumped into the deepest part of the Atlantic, because you never know what's coming at Chelsea.
“I think Chelsea fans, first of all, you've got an academy, why don't you use your academy? And secondly, Chelsea fans, like most fans, only want to win games of football. I don't care who you are. So again, don't come up with your philosophies and other things, just win games of football.
“I think if Alonso just goes, 'Right, you'll need to give me two or three really experienced players here.' If you want the kids to improve, there's nothing better for them than standing beside great experienced players every day, learning from them on the pitch and off the pitch. That's the only way.
“You can also learn bad habits if you get bad professionals in. But that's the best way of learning, is getting good people as a manager around you to set standards at the club.”
Alonso had been out of work since January when Real Madrid relieved him of his duties and he now steps into a club who are not afraid of sacking coaches who don’t show they can turn the side around immediately.
