It's become an increasing possibility that Xabi Alonso will become Chelsea's manager next season.

Alonso has been out of work after being sacked by Real Madrid in January, with the 44-year-old seeking his next challenge.

The Spaniard is Chelsea's top priority to replace interim boss Calum McFarlane, and sources close to the club are confident that a deal can be completed, even if it is difficult.

To persuade Alonso to join a side that potentially won't be playing European football next season, BlueCo have agreed to give Alonso more control over transfers.

That is the manager's greatest wish ahead of a mooted switch to Stamford Bridge, and Spanish football expert Guillem Balague believes Chelsea are going to "tweak" the system to give the head coach more of a "voice".

"We are hearing from sources very close to the Chelsea decision makers that they are going to tweak the system to give the manager more voice. That is Xabi’s first win and you are never stronger than when you are negotiating to land in a club," Balague wrote on X.

Enzo Maresca's biggest complaint over Chelsea's board was the lack of control over transfers, but they now look set to change their way of operating to land their top target.
