United completed first league double over Liverpool since 2015-16 on Sunday afternoon as goals from Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Kobbie Mainoo secured 3 points for the Red Devils.
Liverpool slumped to their 11th Premier League defeat of the season as their title defence this season becomes even more depressing for supporters whose trophy hopes have beenb crushed.
Liverpool signings have failed
The Premier League champions invested heavily in the transfer window to maintain their momentum but failed thanks to injuries and poor tactics. The likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak came into the side in a haul of around £400M that simply hasn't worked out.
"I think where the scrutiny comes is the signings. They've not worked," Richards said on the Rest is Football, as Shearer shook his head.
"Isak has been injured, Wirtz has not been at the level we all expect, Frimpong is your right winger, your right-back, it's not really working out.
"Kerkez has been a shadow of the player who was at Bournemouth. I don't know if that's pressure or if that's the system.
"Liverpool are too slow, too passive, they're too easy to play against. What you normally associate Liverpool with is being aggressive, hard to beat, work-rate, especially under Klopp, and they're none of those things. I'd like the manager to get a chance to turn those things around."
Should Slot be handed a chance?
Shearer also weighed in on manager Arne Slot and was asked if he should be given a chance to turn the side around.
"I think so. I think in terms of what he did last season and winning the league, manager of the season. With the issues and the problems they've had at Liverpool this year, then yeah, I do. If it were my choice, I would have him as manager, yeah."
Liverpool are well placed to qualify for the Champions League, but sit six points behind United, who occupy third in the Premier League table. As they chase down European football, the board will be eyeing the results in the final few games as they discuss Slot’s shaky future.
