Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak both scored in a crazy clash at Tottenham which ended 2-1 to Liverpool in what was a simple win against a side with 9 men after Xavi Simons and Romero were sent off.
This was Ekitike’s eighth Premier League goal in 16 appearances so far under manager Arne Slot, who will have to rely on him a lot more now that Alexander Isak has fractured his leg.
Speaking on his podcast after the final whistle, Rooney admitted that he loves what he has seen from Ekitike so far.
“He's been one of, if not the best, signing in the Premier League.
"And fair play to him because the pressure on him must have been huge because obviously he cost quite a bit of money as well, but with Liverpool bringing Wirtz in and Isak, there was a huge amount of pressure on him to try and get in the team.
"And he's been the one who's the most consistent one for them in terms of scoring goals, and his overall play has been really good. And he's playing with a bit of an attitude, which I like as well from him.”
The 23-year-old scored his 11th goal in all competitions for Liverpool with his second-half header against Spurs, as he proves why the Reds went all out to sign him from Frankfurt in the summer.
He has now bagged five goals in his last three Premier League matches and will spearhead Liverpool’s attack against Wolves after Christmas.
