He said: “Obviously everyone knows how happy I am at Everton but I’m not going to go too much into it. I’ve got my England head on for the next two days.

"I just want to get the qualification, get the win tomorrow and hopefully get another cap and hit number 80. That’s my sole focus at the minute."

On his longevity, Pickford also stated: “I put it down to the way I train. I feel like I train really well. I train to improve. When the session is put on, I give 100 percent. I think I tick every box Monday to Friday to be at the best I can be on a match day.

“And I’ll never change that method. I think it does work. Some I did as a young kid, it got put into us as a young kid because when you’re at youth team and you’re not training well or you’re trying to have a down day, you probably wouldn’t get picked to play on a Saturday.

“I’ve never changed that attitude. I’ve always had that mentality. I train as the way I play. I know it’s an easy saying but it’s something that I feel has worked … because I’ve ticked every box."
