Potter was named new Sweden coach last week, signing initially to the end of World Cup qualifying.
Olsson said of the former West Ham and Chelsea manager: "You have to remember that it's the middle of a qualifier, you have three weeks until the next match, and to then have a coach like Graham Potter I think is a very good recruitment. Positive and exciting.
"He takes over a national team where you have to remember that the individual foundation is very good. Then he is quite similar to the profile that the association has advocated anyway, that is, offensive, attractive football. Forward-leaning.
"Then I think he is like many British coaches. They are skilled organizationally, in finding this defensive balance even if they go forward. In that way it is a good appointment."
On Potter's problems at West Ham and Chelsea, Olsson also told HD.se: "There you can't get away from it, if you're going to be the devil's advocate for his employment now, if you include Chelsea and West Ham, and also Swansea in the beginning, it took a while before he had an effect on what he wants to do.
"You don't normally have time to build something longer in the national team, especially not now, but there you have to have an effect immediately. In that way, it's a bit of a question mark."
