Newcastle have had two bids rejected for the 28-year-old forward, with the latest worth up to £40M. These bids came after Wissa removed all association with Brentford from his Instagram account as he attempts to force a move to The Magpies, which looks unlikely after weeks of negotiations.
BBC's senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel reports that the deal is unlikely to happen this summer as less than a week remains of the transfer window.
"They (Newcastle United) can't get the deal for Wissa over the line. That's been going on for four weeks, and Wissa is still trying to force his way out of Brentford, and Newcastle can't get the deal done.
"They (Wissa's camp) were under the assumption that once Brentford completed the signing of Dango Ouattara, he could go, provided Newcastle met the asking price. Ouattara is in Brentford, and yet Wissa is hanging on for his move to Newcastle.”
Newcastle have so far missed out on targets such as Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, James Trafford, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo who have all dodged a move to Tyneside in what has been a dire window for the club.
News that Wissa looks likely to stay at Brentford had a knock on effect on Isak’s future as the club need to secure a replacement for him to depart. If no replacement is found then he will stay with the side who have received no formal bid for the Swedish international since their £110M bid was rejected at the start of the month.
