Manager Ruben Amorim has requested a new striker this summer, with the position set to become their priority once a deal for Mbeumo is completed this week as the winger works through his medical.
United made Liam Dealp their preferred target before he chose to join Chelsea, had their eyes set on Hugo Ekitike before Liverpool snapped him up and also leaned towards Viktor Gyokeres before the Sporting Lisbon star chose Arsenal in what has been a long running transfer saga.
Marcus Rashford is set to join Barcelona on loan, with Antony poised for a La Liga move within the next few months. United need attacking reinforcements and Amorim will waste no time in launching a bid for some of the world’s most elite finishers this summer as the season quickly approaches.
Top of Amorim’s list will be Gyokeres who is yet to make a commitment to the Gunners and could still be tempted to move to Manchester as Arsenal continue to fail to meet Sporting’s valuation. Second would be Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins who has been linked to a number of sides this summer, including United who would welcome the 29 year old who scored 17 Premier League goals last season.
Lastly is Nicolas Jackson who United have reportedly approached over the last few days. However, Jackson scored just 10 league goals last season in 30 games and many believe he won’t be the answer to United's goal scoring woes which may continue if Amorim continues to be patient.
